Privacy Policy

Last updated September 21, 2026.

Overview

Flapslog ("we," "our," "us") helps pilots maintain their own independent, secure backup of their FAA flight logbook. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it's used. We don't sell your data, and we don't run advertising or third-party tracking SDKs.

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address, username, pilot name, password (stored only as a salted hash — we never see or store your password in plain text), and FAA certificate number and certificate type. This is used to sign you in, identify your logbook, and verify FAA currency requirements you ask the app to track.

Flight log data

Flight entries you create (dates, airports, routes, aircraft, times, landings, remarks, and related FAA logbook fields) are stored on our servers under your account. This is the core record Flapslog exists to back up, and it is never shared with anyone except as described below.

Location for airport detection

When you use "Start Flight" to log a flight in progress, you can tap the location button to have your device's GPS suggest your nearest airport. This is a one-time read of your current position used only to look up a nearby airport — we don't track your location continuously or in the background, and we don't store a location history. Only the airport code you end up saving with the flight is stored.

CFI–student tracking

Flapslog lets a CFI invite a student to link accounts so the CFI can view the student's flight log and issue endorsements. This is consent-based: nothing is shared until the student accepts the invite from their own account, and either side can remove the link at any time, which immediately ends the CFI's access.

CFI endorsement requests

When you request an endorsement, we email the CFI contact information you provide (name, email, certificate number) a secure, expiring link to review and electronically sign the endorsement — no Flapslog account is required on the CFI's end for this. The signed endorsement, your name, and FAA certificate number appear on the resulting document.

Subscriptions and payments

Paid plans (Pilot, CFI, and Lifetime) are billed either through Apple's In-App Purchase system when you subscribe from the app, or through Stripe when you subscribe from flapslog.com. Apple and Stripe handle your payment details directly — we never see or store your card number. Stripe billing requires sharing your email address with Stripe to create and manage your billing account.

AI-assisted logbook import

If you use the AI photo-import feature to digitize paper logbook pages, the images you upload are sent to a third-party AI service to extract flight data for your review before anything is saved. Images are used only to process that import request.

Ask the Regs (AI regulation answers)

When you ask a question in Ask the Regs, your question and the matching FAA regulation text are sent to a third-party AI service to generate an answer with citations. We keep a record of your questions and the answers so we can enforce daily question limits and improve the feature. Don't include personal or sensitive information in your questions.

Data export and deletion

You can export your full logbook (CSV or JSON) at any time from the Account screen. If you cancel a paid plan, you keep read-only access to export your data for 60 days before the account moves to the free tier's limits. You can permanently delete your account and all of its data at any time from the Account screen in the Flapslog app (Account → Delete Account), or by emailing us at the address below. Deleting your account cancels any subscription billed through our website; an App Store subscription must be cancelled separately in your Apple ID settings.

Children's privacy

Flapslog is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
